Dairyland Power Expands Renewable Energy Portfolio

April 22, 2015 - Dairyland is expanding its commitment to renewable resources with the purchase of output from Sartell Hydro, a hydroelectric generation station located on the Mississippi River in Sartell, Minn. A long-term power purchase agreement between Dairyland and Eagle Creek Renewable Energy for the facility’s total output of 10 MW was effective in April. Sartell Hydro is expected to power approximately 4,500 homes with water-powered electricity.

Ben Porath Named VP, Power Delivery

February 2, 2015 - Dairyland Power is pleased to announce the promotion of Ben Porath to the position of Vice President, Power Delivery, effective Feb. 2. He succeeds Chuck Callies who is retiring on April 2 after 24 years of service to Dairyland. “Ben possesses a skill set that combines strategic thinking and the technical expertise needed to be a leader in our complex electric utility industry,” said Barb Nick, President and CEO.

Dairyland Honored at Renewables Summit

January 15, 2015 - Dairyland Power and three of its member cooperatives were honored at the statewide Energy Policy Summit on Jan. 9 at UW-Madison’s Union South. The event is organized by RENEW Wisconsin, which inducts renewable energy projects built in the state during 2014 into its annual honor roll. Dairyland was recognized for a major solar installation located at Vernon Electric Cooperative (Westby, Wis.). Dairyland added two, 520 kW solar installations in 2014. The first, located at Vernon Electric, came online in June.

DPC leads in progress on WI Renewable Portfolio Standard

November 24, 2014 - Dairyland Power Cooperative has been identified as having made the most progress in meeting its 2015 Wisconsin Renewable Portfolio Standard (RPS) among utilities in the state, according to a report recently prepared for and accepted by the Public Service Commission (PSC). Dairyland topped the list of Wisconsin electric providers by meeting 165 percent of its 2015 RPS requirements. In 2013, 13.93 percent of Dairyland’s total sales for resale in Wisconsin (member cooperatives and municipals) came from renewable energy resources.

Dairyland Announces New CEO

November 20, 2014 - Dairyland's Board of Directors has named Barbara “Barb” Nick as the organization’s next President and CEO. She will succeed Bill Berg who is retiring at the end of the year. “Barb brings more than 30 years of diverse professional experience from the electric and gas industry to Dairyland,” said Dan Korn, Chairman of Dairyland’s Board of Directors.

Dairyland Provides Flambeau Hydro Station Safety Information

September 23, 2014 - October is National Co-op Month, which provides an opportunity to focus on the cooperative principles including Education, Training and Information and Concern for Community. Dairyland Power Cooperative owns the Flambeau Hydro Station located near Ladysmith, Wis., a water-powered facility that has operated safely and efficiently for over 65 years.

DPC's 73rd Annual Meeting Highlights

June 4, 2014 - Approximately 600 electric cooperative leaders and guests attended Dairyland Power’s 73rd annual meeting on June 4. Dan Korn, Chairman of the Board and director representing Vernon Electric, presided over the meeting. The theme of the meeting was Together. By working together, Dairyland and its member cooperatives reliably and affordably meet energy needs while improving the quality of life in local communities. William Berg, Dairyland President and CEO, wove the theme through what was his final annual meeting address.

Dairyland Attended White House Solar Summit

April 16, 2014 - Dairyland participated in the White House Solar Summit and Champions of Change event in April at the White House in Washington, D.C. Dairyland was nominated to attend the summit by the Rural Utilities Service, an agency of the U.S. Department of Agriculture. Eau Claire Energy Cooperative, a Dairyland member, was also represented at the Summit. The summit recognized local leaders in the U.S. who are taking action to advance solar power. Recently, Dairyland announced it is expanding its renewable energy resources with the addition of two commercial solar projects.

Dam Safety Awareness Week (April 7-12)

April 10, 2014 - Spring has finally arrived and with the warmer temperatures come higher river flows on area rivers due to melting snow and spring rain. These flows are a stark reminder of how powerful the forces of Nature can be and how important it is to stay safe when boating, canoeing, fishing or seeking other recreation opportunities on area rivers. Dairyland Power Cooperative joins with the Midwest Hydro Users Group (HUG) in observing Dam Safety Awareness Week (April 7-12) to promote public safety awareness near dams and prevent accidents throughout the boating season.
