Joyce Peppin Joins Dairyland Power

Joyce Peppin joins Dairyland Power Cooperative as Director, Government Relations and Legal Services on Aug. 2, 2021. Peppin comes to Dairyland with extensive government affairs, legislative, general and utility counsel experience. She was previously employed as the Director of Government Affairs and General Counsel for Minnesota Rural Electric Association (MREA). During her time with MREA, Peppin directed strategic planning for legislative, legal and regulatory matters for the association and state electric cooperatives.

Peregrine falcon stewardship success

The Peregrine falcons nesting at Dairyland's John P. Madgett (JPM) power plant in Alma, Wis., have fledged their nest, bringing the total number of falcons who have fledged from Dairyland’s Peregrine Falcon Restoration Program to 153.  

The falcons will remain nearby until the fall, when they migrate to South America. Juvenile falcons remain in South America for the first two years of their lives before returning back to the area. 

Genoa Station #3 retires after 52 years

Dairyland’s 345 MW Genoa Station #3 (G-3) will be retired June 1, following 52 years of providing safe, reliable power to the region. G-3 employees completed the plant’s last day of operation on April 11, following depletion of the usable coal inventory. 

“We are very grateful to our G-3 employees for the incredible performance and professionalism they have demonstrated in getting us safely to retirement,” said President and CEO Brent Ridge. “On behalf of everyone at Dairyland, thank you for your remarkable service to our membership.“

Genoa Boat Landing & Facilities to Remain Open

The Blaske Boat Landing and on-site restroom facilities in Genoa, Wis., will remain open to the public after the June 1 closure of Dairyland Power Cooperative’s Genoa Station #3 (G-3) power plant.

The Blaske Boat Landing is located on the Mississippi River off Hwy. 35 near Genoa, adjacent to Dairyland’s Genoa Site property. The boat landing sees the most traffic of all landings in Pool 9 of the Mississippi River. It is utilized year-around by boating and fishing enthusiasts.

New Workforce Training Opportunity for DPC Employees

Dairyland and Chippewa Valley Technical College have developed an innovative educational and training opportunity for Dairyland employees impacted by the upcoming retirement of the Genoa #3 (G-3) coal-fired power plant.

Through the collaboration, interested employees are retraining to become lineworkers within the Dairyland system. The class of employees taking advantage of the chance to transition to an in-demand career has just begun at CVTC’s Eau Claire (Wis.) campus.
