EPRI Technology Award
Dairyland's, Supervisor, Load Management, Mitch Vanden Langenberg received the Electric Power Research Institute’s (EPRI) Technology Transfer Award for the Energy Management Circuit Breaker project.
“This project was a team effort between Dairyland and our member cooperatives,” said Mitch. “The award belongs to all who contributed their skills, time and resources. It was exciting for all of us to be part of next generation technology that has demonstrated the potential to benefit both energy consumers and utilities.”
The Dairyland team collaborated with EPRI and 11 other utilities on the research demonstration project that installed more than 250 energy management circuit breakers at over 60 sites across 19 states. The innovative devices embed power measurement, control, and connectivity into a traditional circuit breaker form factor to support applications such as energy automation, DER interconnection, managed EV charging, and demand response. This demonstration project has vetted the circuit breakers for multiple use cases, identified installation challenges and helped to test the data collection system and associated tools.
The EPRI Technology Transfer Awards recognize innovators who have applied EPRI research to produce significant results. The awards spotlight the value of collaborative research to the electricity sector and energy consumers.
