Barbara A. Nick has led Dairyland as President and CEO since December 2014.
Prior to Dairyland, Nick served in various leadership roles at Wisconsin Public Service Corporation/Integrys (now WEC Energy Group). She has 40 years in the electric and gas energy industry in a variety of leadership positions including: President of Minnesota Energy Resources, President of Michigan Gas Utility, President of Upper Peninsula Power, and Senior Vice President of Energy Delivery and Customer Service for WPSC.
Under her leadership, Dairyland Power Cooperative has focused on resource diversification, sustainability and leadership development. Dairyland’s solar investment doubled the solar generation in Wisconsin during 2016. Over half of Dairyland’s employees have completed Leadership Development. Dairyland is Future Ready with more trained leaders, a more diversified portfolio, updated systems and an achievement-focused culture.
An engaged community member, Nick has over 30 years of board service on various profit and non-profit boards. She is serving a six-year term as Trustee on the State of Wisconsin Investment Board (SWIB). This includes oversight of state funds valued at over $100 billion. She is also on the Board of Directors for the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI), Secretary of Wisconsin Manufacturers Commerce (WMC), Independent Advisory Director for Mead & Hunt, Trustee for Viterbo University, and Trustee on the Gundersen Foundation Board. As an advocate of strong and principled leadership, Nick is the author and editor of Lenses of Leadership, A Call to Action.
Nick earned a bachelor’s degree in Communications and Business from University of Wisconsin-Green Bay and has completed Harvard Business School’s Advanced Management Program. She and her husband, Jay, have 6 children and 15 grandchildren. They enjoy family time at their Northern Wisconsin cottage. They also share a passion for education related to STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math).
